What is meant by the term "Capture"?

Capture in the realm of ECM refers to the strategy the business uses to ingest documentation into their ECM repository. Most businesses receive a mixture of digital documentation (PDFs, XMLs) alongside physical documentation (via Post/Courier) that are key to their business functions. A business will ideally need to consolidate this documentation into a single repository. The software used to consolidate this is referred to as a capture solution. Examples are IBM DataCap, Kofax Capture, etc. Most modern capture solutions are integrated with artificial intelligence models in the cloud to accelerate classifying the content, as well as extracting key data from this content in an attempt to index it according to business needs.

Transition to Content Services

In 2016, Gartner declared that ECM was to be replaced by Content Services. Content Services refers to a more holistic approach to unstructured content as part of an Enterprise Wide data management strategy. Regardless of this transition, from 2017 onwards most large organisations in the banking and insurance sector still need specific ECM solutions based on certain use cases due to internal departmentalisation. In both cases, organisations are searching for easy to implement, scalable and flexible solutions which rely on low code/no code that allows the business to develop their own solutions.
